Pir Muhammad shah late is a well-known folk poet of Pothohar region and Kashmir. His verse renderings of Heer, a famous romance, is sung in most regions of Kashmir and is one of the most popular oral traditions.
Folktales are more than simply being an amusement. They are very important part of community’s oral literature. Hence social scientists treat them as an asset for their investigations.
It is the fourth in the series of catalogues of the Lok Virsa. The object of this catalogue is to facilitate the future custodians, to guide students and research scholars and to provide some basic knowledge to the general public.
This book describes the nomadic theater companies that once roamed widely across the sub-continent, providing entertainment for the rural masses. The core of the book highlights the lives of the several prominent women of Pakistan’s folk theater. The life of the legendary Bali Jati, a widely popular theater actress who became the only woman to own and manage a theater group forms the centerpiece of the narrative.
There is an acute shortage of the text books and informational material on the material culture of Pakistan. Although the present work was published in 1974 in the United States, it is still the only comprehensive reference work on the subject of traditional pottery in Pakistan.
This report presents the data collected in the field of ethnomusicology and ethnography. The purpose of this pilot survey was to develop a program for a Musical Atlas OF Pakistan, the concept of which is discussed in the introduction to this report. A glossary of musical terms and bibliography have been included at the end.
